Hamden Man Avoids Jail Time in Crash That Kills Best Friend: Report

The man said he swerved to avoid crashing into two vehicles stopped in front of him.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man will avoid jail time after a crash killed his best friend.

Dean Williams, 38, got a six-month sentence suspended with a two year conditional discharge, according to the New Haven Register. Williams was driving a three-wheeled Polaris Slingshot on Whalley Avenue in July 2015 when he swerved to avoid rear-ending two vehicles in front of him.

His front seat passenger Kevin Lewis Jr. was injured and died days later in the hospital. Prosecutors noted that Lewis' family didn't want a negative outcome for Williams.
