Hamden Man Points Rifle at Woman and Her Son, Shoots Parked Vehicle: Police
Responding officers negotiated with the man, who had locked himself in a bedroom and was promptly arrested after he emerged from the room.

Hamden, CT — A Hamden man is accused of pointing a rifle at a woman and her 26-year-old son during a domestic dispute and then fired two shots, including one that struck a parked vehicle, according to police.
Hamden Police responded to a State Street address on the report of a man shooting a firearm at motor vehicles at about 7:30 p.m. on June 26, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said investigation revealed that Brett Smith, 61, became involved in a verbal dispute with a woman that he lives with.

Smith then entered their apartment and then exited, holding a rifle and the victim told police that he pointed the rifle at her and her 26-year-old son.
Smith then fired two shots, including one that struck a parked motor vehicle, according to Capt. Smith.

The second shot was allegedly fired into the air.
Smith, who threatened the victim and her son, did not fire the rifle at them, Capt. Smith said.
While on scene, officers negotiated with Smith, who had locked himself in a bedroom. He emerged a short time later, at which time he was promptly arrested. Officers seized two firearms, including the loaded rifle.
Brett Smith, 61, of 2390 State Street, Apartment 2G, was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment, two counts of breach of peace, two counts of second-degree threatening and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
Smith, who was detained on a $5,000 bond, was scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on June 27.
