Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson Decides His Political Future

Jackson makes announcement during budget address to Legislative Council.

Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson delivered more than just a budget to the Legislative Council Monday night, he announced that he would not seek a fourth term as mayor, Kate Ramunni of the New Haven Register reports.

Jackson told the council that it would be his “last budget delivery to you” and that he had chosen not to seek another term, according to Ramunni.

Ramunni reports that Jackson cited the recent deaths of two young people active in town, Republican Town Committee Chairman Matt Corcoran and former New Haven Register reporter Michael Bellmore (who worked in the mayor’s office), in making his decision.

The Hartford Courant reports that one of the new opportunities for Jackson will be a job in Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s administration.

The Courant cited “several informed sources” that say Jackson is expected to be named to a top post in Malloy’s budget unit, the Office of Policy Management, and an announcement can come on Tuesday.

Jackson served as chairman of the governor’s Sandy Hook Advisory Commission.
