Hamden Planning and Zoning Commission Extends Ban on New Off-Campus Student Housing
The moratorium had been scheduled to expire next month.

As the town continues to deal with the growing number of Quinnipiac University students living off-campus, the Hamden Planning and Zoning Commission voted Tuesday night to extend its temporary ban on new student housing permits through November, according to NBC Connecticut.
NBC reports the commission also voted to require colleges and universities to file five-year master plans for student housing.
Prior to the votes, an attorney representing a group of residents who rent to Quinnipiac students questioned the legality of the town’s moratorium on student housing permits and said the fees the town charges for the permits are unfair, according to the New Haven Register.

Several landlords in town attended the meeting and spoke out against extending the moratorium, while other residents that live in neighborhoods with the privately-owned off-campus housing complained about noise issues and unruly behavior by some of the students.
