Burglary Suspect Entered Through Dog Door: Hamden Police

Police apprehended the man during a burglary-in-progress in the overnight hours.

Hamden police responded to a burglary-in-progress at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and arrested the suspect, who had entered the Maplewood Terrace residence through a small “dog door.”

Police said that that the homeowners were woken up after hearing a loud noise and also observed an individual inside of their residence, holding a flashlight.

Officer Scott Jason arrived and observed Jose Pagan standing inside of the “mud room” carrying electronic equipment. He was promptly placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.

Further investigation revealed that Pagan had entered the residence through a small “dog door”, which had been cut into the back door. In addition, Pagan had rummaged through the homeowner’s motor vehicle, which was parked in the driveway.

Pagan, 23, of 66 Beechwood Avenue in Hamden, was arrested on charges of first-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny and second-degree criminal mischief.

Pagan was detained on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on July 28.
