Hamden Police Arrest Suspect in 'Smash-and-Grab' Burglary at Minute Mart

Hamden police have arrested a man in connection with a “smash-and-grab” burglary at the Minute Mart on Circular Avenue on Friday.
Officer Enrique Rivera-Rodriguez discovered a burglary at the store, located at 280 Circular Avenue, during the early morning hours on Oct. 17, according to a police press release.
Investigation revealed that an individual broke the front window of the convenience store with a brick and once inside, he stole several items, including cigarettes and candy, according to police.

Later in the morning Detective Joseph Liguori assumed the investigation and he quickly developed a suspect, who was later identified as Desmond Howard.
Further investigation revealed that Howard was responsible for committing the burglary, according to police, who also said that stolen items were recovered from his temporary residence on Gorham Avenue.

Howard, 20, of 389 Mill Rock Road in Hamden, was arrested on charges of second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and sixth-degree larceny.
Howard, who was detained at police headquarters on a $25,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Oct. 31.
