Hamden Students Receive Hands-On Science Lessons Thanks To Donation

HAMDEN, CT — (Contributed): Shepherd Glen School fifth graders have a chance to put science into motion, thanks to a generous donation from the Eli Whitney Museum.

The program will consist of the students and teachers constructing orreries, a mechanical model of the Solar System that illustrates or predicts the relative positions and motions of the planets and moons. This all ties into the Astronomy Unit the students are currently being taught.

The program will be Friday morning in the Shepherd Glen School cafeteria.

"It’s one thing to tell students about how solar systems move, but to have them build a model with their own hands makes the science more appealing," Shepherd Glen School Principal Barbara Perrotti said. “We are excited about this opportunity for our students and look forward to more partnerships that encourage our students to interact with our curriculum.”
