Hamden Woman Fighting to Save Her Dogs from Death Row

Kato and Kleo were taken from Kim Miller following the reported attack and mauling of a neighbor in October 2012.

A Hamden woman is fighting to give her two Rottweilers a “second chance” after they were taken away from her in October 2012 following the attack and mauling of a neighbor when they got loose from their yard and are scheduled to be euthanized.

Kim Miller has gone to court and filed five different appeals to free her dogs, Kato and Kleo, and has another appeal pending after a Nov. 18 Superior Court ruling in New Britain let stand the state’s decision to put down the dogs, according to the New Haven Register.

The dogs were seized by the Hamden Animal Control in 2012 following the alleged incident in which the two dogs attacked Cynthia Reed, 47, after she rushed to help her granddaughter, Klara Reed, who was confronted by the dogs, according to the Register.

The Register reported that the Rottweilers had escaped from their yard on neighboring Edwards Street and were growling and barking at the child and neighbors reported hitting the dogs with bats to get them away from Reed.

Court documents said Cynthia Reed’s injuries were “significant enough to justify issuance of the disposal orders,” according to the Register.
