Liquor License Lost, Restaurant Begins Advertising As ‘BYOB’ In Hamden: Report

The restaurant/bar recently had its liquor license revoked amid a number of violent incidents that occurred in the immediate vicinity.

HAMDEN, CT — After having its liquor license revoked by the state Liquor Control Commission amid numerous shootings and other incidents that occurred in the immediate vicinity of Slyce Pizza Bar, the restaurant is now encouraging customers to bring their own alcohol and has been advertising as a “BYOB” business, according to NBC Connecticut.

NBC reports Hamden officials are reviewing what they can do to regulate “Bring Your Own Booze” businesses at the local level. Police Chief Thomas Wydra told NBC that as far as he knows, Slyce Pizza isn’t violating any local or state laws. (To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Wydra, Mayor Curt Balzano Leng and Southern Connecticut State University officials were among those who testified in favor of not letting the license be renewed, according to the New Haven Register.

Slyce Pizza owner Fazlay Rabbi testified and said he can't control what happens after patrons leave the premises and denied being responsible for violence in the area.

Some incidents include three citations for selling alcohol to minors in 2013, fights inside and outside of the restaurant and five shootings in the immediate area of the restaurant, which is located on Arch Street in Hamden.
