Man Breaks Into Building, Cuts Live Wires and Steals Copper Pipes: Hamden Police
The man is accused of causing $50,000 worth of damage to the building, which was under renovation, during the incident: BREAKING

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man has been charged with breaking into a commercial building that was undergoing renovations and causing about $50,000 worth of damage while stealing copper pipes, according to police.
Hamden Police responded to a report of smoke coming from a Dixwell Avenue building on June 28, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said investigation revealed that an individual, who was later identified as Christopher Olson, entered the building and cut live electrical wires in the basement.

Olson then cut and removed several copper pipes and a baseboard heating system, according to Smith.
The building’s owner sustained a monetary loss of approximately $50,000.

Detective Brian Stewart submitted an arrest warrant application to the court for Olson, which was approved.
Olson, 47, of Sanford Street in Hamden, turned himself in to police custody on Aug. 15.
Olson was charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief and sixth-degree larceny. Olson, who was detained on a court-ordered $35,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Aug. 29.
Olson was also arrested last month for attempting to break into the Henny Penny on Dixwell Avenue overnight on July 8.
