Man Charged with Assaulting Quinnipiac Student on Campus
The man was apprehended as he climbed a basketball hoop in an attempt to flee, according to police.

A New Britain man faces several charges after he allegedly assaulted a Quinnipiac student and was apprehended by the university’s public safety as he climbed a basketball hoop on campus Saturday morning.
Hamden police responded to Quinnipiac University on the report of an assault at about 8 a.m. on Aug. 22, Capt. Ronald Smith said in a press release.
Prior to arrival, Central Communications advised responding officers that Quinnipiac University Public Safety had detained the individual responsible for the assault, according to Smith.

Hamden Police took custody of the individual, Sunday Okoro, and transported him to police headquarters.
Smith said investigation revealed that a 21 year-old Quinnipiac University student and her teammate were walking to the athletic center, when Okoro began “walking shoulder to shoulder” with her.

Okoro then allegedly grabbed her wrist, while attempting to pick her up. The female student advised officers that she dropped to the ground, which prevented Okoro from lifting her up.
Okoro continued to grab her, according to Smith, and she was able to flee to the athletic center, where she alerted Public Safety.
Okoro subsequently fled and was apprehended, as he attempted to climb a basketball hoop. Further investigation revealed that Okoro is an employee for Slyacusa Moving Company, who was working at the university.
Okoro, 19, of 127 Landers Avenue, New Britain, was arrested on charges of second-degree unlawful restraint, third-degree assault and breach of peace. Okoro, who was detained on a $2,500 bond, is scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court on Sept. 3.
