Man Dies in Hamden Crash: Police

Responding officers found the man ejected from his vehicle and he was pronounced dead at the scene early Friday morning.

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man was killed in an early Friday morning crash in Hamden, according to police. Hamden Police responded to the area of Newhall Street and Newbury Street at about 1:50 a.m. on the report of a motor vehicle accident.

Responding officers found Charles C. Knight III, 41, lying in the road next to his vehicle, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said Knight was pronounced dead by paramedics. His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington for an autopsy.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that Knight was traveling northbound on Prospect Street, at which time he struck a stone wall near Mill Rock Road,” Smith said in a press release. “The impact caused major damage to his vehicle. Knight then continued on Mill Rock Road towards Newhall Street. His vehicle continued to the area of Newhall Street and Newbury Street, where it stopped against a street sign pole.”

Officers Gregg Curran and David Falcigno of the Hamden Police Department Traffic Division are continuing the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hamden Police Department Traffic Division at (203) 230-4036.
