Metal Detectors To Be Implemented At Hamden High School
The school district is implementing additional safety and security measures in the wake of recent threats made against Hamden High School.
HAMDEN, CT — Students and staff will be screened with metal detectors when Hamden High School reopens Wednesday after being closed since Friday due to multiple threats made against the school, according to multiple reports.
The Board of Education held a special meeting Monday night to discuss additional safety and security measures in the wake of the recent threats.
In addition to security guards stationed at entrances with metal-detecting wands, the district plans to establish a video observation room to monitor the high school and hire a security supervisor and an in-school suspension supervisor, according to the New Haven Register.

The Register reported the district has ordered walk-through metal detectors but will use the metal-detecting wands for the time being.
School officials have mixed feelings on metal detectors and increased security measures, but agree that something needs to be done, according to WTNH News 8.

Superintendent Jody Ian Goeler told parents that anyone found with a weapon will be expelled, WTNH reported.
