The store pays cash on the spot for teens and 20-somethings' gently used clothing and accessories and is celebrating its opening today.

HAMDEN, CT — A new “frugal” retail store that says it offers teens and young 20-somethings cash on the spot for their gently used clothing and accessories has opened its doors in Hamden.
Plato’s Closet, located at 2335 Dixwell Avenue, is celebrating its grand opening on Thursday, July 28. Doors opened at 10 a.m. and DJ Capo is on hand playing music and Moon Rocks Gourmet Cookies will be free to sample for those in line for the opening.
Plato’s Closet is a national chain but the local Hamden franchise is owned by Rick Myers, who receives help from his nephew, Jon Pachesa, in operating the business.

Plato’s Closet is part of a unique national recycling retail chain that specializes in clothing and accessories for teens and 20-somethings. The hip, trendy clothing store buys and sells guys and girls gently-used, brand-name clothing and accessories, including: shoes, belts, purses, and jewelry, among other items.
According to Myers, teens and 20-somethings love to shop at Plato’s Closet because they can get brand-name clothing at great values. And, parents love the fact that their kids can take their gently-used brand-name clothing and turn it into cash, according to Myers.

“Plato’s Closet fills a distinct niche in the retail market,” Myers said in a press release. “We are a part of a unique retail resale business that specializes in the teen and young adult market segment. The great thing about the concept is that consumers are always looking for ways to stretch their dollar and Plato’s Closet lets them save money in two ways. Customers can achieve savings up to 70 percent off trendy, brand-name clothing and accessories. Plus, they can receive cash on the spot for gently-used items that are outgrown or no longer wanted.”
No appointment is necessary to sell clothing and accessories to Plato’s Closet. The store also pays cash on the spot for goods it purchases from consumers.
Typically, Plato’s Closet buys items that have been in retail stores within the past 12-to-18 months and are current styles seen in the mall, according to the press release.
“We don’t try to create new fashion trends, we respond to actual trends in a timely and value-oriented manner,” Myers said.
