New York Man Arrested in Home Depot Robbery

Man allegedly bit a security guard and threatened him with an AIDS-infected needle last month.

A New York man was arrested Tuesday on charges he robbed Home Depot last month and threatened to stick a security guard with a needle containing the AIDS virus.

Alberto Agront, 39, of Brooklyn, NY, was charged with second-degree robbery, third-degree larceny, criminal attempt to commit fourth-degree larceny and reckless driving, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith. 

During the , a security guard confronted Agront as he was allegedly leaving the store with stolen items. Agront bit the security guard and threatened him with the supposedly tainted needle, according to police.

Agront then took off, getting on the nearby Wilbur Cross Parkway with police behind him. Deputy Chief Bo Kicak pulled the car over on the highway, Smith said, but as he approached the car, Agront took off.

The car was later found on Hartford Turnpike in North Haven.

Kicak and Off. Patrick McCue conducted the investigating, which included trips to Agront's hometown of Brooklyn, Smith said, and eventually they applied for an arrest warrant for Agront's arrest. He turned himself in Tuesday morning, Smith said.

Agront posted $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court April 7.
