HAMDEN, CT — Hamden Police have charged a nurse’s aide from Norwalk with stealing more than $3,800 from an elderly couple who both had significant medical issues, according to police.
The couple’s daughter contacted Hamden Police regarding a fraud complaint in March of 2012, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said investigation revealed that the woman’s parents resided at Atria Larson Place, an assisted senior living facility, located at 1450 Whitney Avenue. The daughter had hired “Elite Homecare” to provide nurses’ aides for her parents.
Upon reviewing her parents’ finances, she determined that there were numerous unauthorized debit card purchases and cash withdrawals.
A total of $3,846 was stolen from her parents’ bank account, according to Smith. The illegal purchases and withdrawals were made with her mother’s debit card. The thefts occurred between February 13, 2012 through February 28, 2012.
Smith said further investigation identified Elite Homecare employee Moneek Grant, who had worked at the elderly couple’s residence, as the suspect.
Detective John Marks submitted an arrest warrant application for Grant and she was arrested on April 25.
Grant, 38, of 4 Elm Crest Terrace in Norwalk, was arrested on charges of second-degree identity theft, conspiracy to commit second-degree identity theft, fraudulent use of an ATM, third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny.
Grant, who was detained on a court-ordered $100,000 bond, is scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court on May 9.
