Obituary: Edward T. Mendes, 96, of Hamden
Edward was a longtime communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Hamden where he took care of the altar and church as sexton.

Edward T. Mendes, 96, of Hamden, passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017 at the Masonicare facility in Wallingford. Born Dec. 22, 1920 in Taunton, MA a son of the late Manuel and Maria Dos Anjos Mendes, he later moved to San Miguel, The Azores, and lived there for over 30 years before coming to the New Haven.
He was employed for many years at the former Plasticrete Manufacturing Co. in North Haven as a machinist. Edward was a longtime communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Hamden where he could be found every day taking care of the altar and church as sexton.

In 2007 he was awarded the Saint Joseph Medal of Appreciation from the Archdiocese of Hartford. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Maria D. Pimentel Mendes and a brother Manuel Mendes. Survived by a son Antonio M. Mendes and wife Theresa of Wallingford, a daughter Maria F. Barile and husband Ralph of Hamden, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral from Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden Thursday morning at 9:30. Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:00. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamden.
