Obituary: James Vincent Barone, of Hamden

A lifelong Hamden resident, he built boats – some of which competed in the Olympics – and acted alongside Adam Sandler & others in a movie.

James Vincent Barone, died peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital on October 29 after a long illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Margaret (Betty) Barone. He leaves behind many family members and friends who loved him, among them his daughter Alicia Barone (Mike Mendes, fiancé) and grandson Tyler Mendes of Meriden; siblings Meg Barone of Hamden, Carl (Maureen) Barone of Trumbull, William Barone of Hamden, Timothy Barone of North Haven, and Mary Kate (Bruce) Spainhour of Alexandria, Virginia; nieces Kaitlin Barone, Jayce Barone, Maryna Barone, and nephew Gioncarlo Barone.

A lifelong resident of Hamden, he built boats – some of which competed in the Olympics. He also worked at Yale University as a telecomm technician, and at Payne Whitney Gym. He enjoyed participating in many sports including baseball, hockey, and skiing, and he was involved with adult softball teams for the Leitrim House and Playwright.

Throughout his life he enjoyed painting and drawing, a hobby that he honed during a lengthy stay at Gaylord Hospital. He was most proud of his work with actors Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and Steve Buscemi in the Netflix film “The Week Of” in which he played the role of Uncle Seymour.
