Officials ID Hiker Killed In Fall At Sleeping Giant State Park In Hamden

HAMDEN, CT — A Georgia man has been identified as the person who died after falling at Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden on Monday.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has identified the victim as 23-year-old William Gatch of Statesboro, Georgia, according to DEEP spokesperson Bill Flood.

Flood said the State Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

“DEEP Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police continue to investigate this incident,” Flood wrote in a news release. “The preliminary investigation indicates it was accidental.

“DEEP extends condolences to William’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
