Police Cracking Down On Fireworks In Hamden
Police will be increasing patrols to crack down on the use of fireworks after receiving a "vast increase" in fireworks-related complaints.
HAMDEN, CT — Police are cracking down on the use of fireworks in Hamden after receiving a “vast increase” in fireworks-related complaints over the past two months, according to Capt. Ronald Smith. Police have responded to 63 fireworks-related complaints since April 29, Smith said.
“The use of fireworks in Connecticut is illegal,” Smith said in a news release. “Violation of Connecticut General Statute 29-357 is a class C misdemeanor. Hamden Police will be increasing patrols, with an emphasis on fireworks, in the coming days. Those cited, will be scheduled for a mandatory court date.
“The excessive use of fireworks in our neighborhoods have a negative impact. The noise associated with fireworks can have a major effect on young children, the elderly, those affected with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and our pets. In addition, errant fireworks are a fire hazard, especially with our current dry conditions.”
