Quinnipiac Fires Men’s Basketball Coach

The Bobcats' season came to an end with a first-round loss in the MAAC basketball tournament last week.

HAMDEN, CT — Tom Moore has been fired after 10 years as head coach of the Quinnipiac men’s basketball team, the university announced on Tuesday.

The decision comes following the Bobcats' season-ending loss in the first round of the MAAC Basketball Championships in Albany, New York last Thursday (March 2).

“After reviewing the last two seasons and talking with Coach Moore, I have decided that a change in leadership of the men's basketball program is needed for it to move forward in meeting our goals," Quinnipiac Athletic Director Greg Amodio said in a statement. “We are grateful to Tom Moore and his staff for their commitment to our program over the past 10 years. We appreciate all that he has done for the University in guiding his student-athletes' performance on the court and in the classroom.”

Amodio also said that a national search for Moore's replacement will begin immediately. Quinnipiac has retained the services of DHR International to assist in securing the Bobcats' next head coach.

Moore was an assistant coach for Jim Calhoun at UConn for 13 years before being hired at Quinnipiac.

David Borges of the New Haven Register writes that Hamden native Scott Burrell, a former assistant for Moore at Quinnipiac, along with Iona associate head coach Jared Grasso, are the “logical candidates” for the job to replace Moore. Burrell is currently in his second season as head coach of the Southern Connecticut State University men’s basketball team.
