Quinnipiac sorority raises over $10K for Children's Center of Hamden, Prevent Child Abuse America

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Kappa Delta sorority at Quinnipiac University showed its philanthropic power by raising more than $10,000 at its annual Shamrock the Rope event.

Kappa Delta hosted its annual tug-of-war event on Feb. 25. Members of the QU community teamed up to enter the tug-of-war competition to raise money for Kappa Delta’s philanthropies.
At a national level, Kappa Delta supports Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA) but is uniquely dedicated to its local affiliate, the Children's Center of Hamden (CCOH).

Each year, Kappa Delta donates 80% of the funds raised to the Children’s Center of Hamden and 20% of the funds raised to PCAA.

“This event is something not only Kappa Delta’s looks forward to every spring, but the entire community,” said chapter president Isabella Celiberti '25. “Having an event that involves not only Greek life but other organizations, such as our local Girl Scout troop and representatives from the CCOH, is very fulfilling as we get to see everyone come together for the same cause.”

Kappa Delta chapters around the country hold their own Shamrock philanthropy events, which include a variety of activities, however, Shamrock the Rope holds a special place in many members’ hearts due to the direct impact on the local community.

“With a majority of our proceeds going directly to the Children’s Center of Hamden, we’ve truly been able to see how our work has impacted the community we love so dearly,” said Jessica Forcellati, a senior and former vice president of events and programming. “For us, it’s way more than writing a check, it’s a testament to our love and dedication to improving the lives of these children.”

In an effort to strengthen the partnership between Kappa Delta and the Children's Center of Hamden, a chapter member is designated to sit on the board of CCOH, attend monthly meetings and collaborate with the board members to decide how the funds are used to better the lives of the children.

“Our partnership with CCOH is so important to us because we are actively involved in these children’s lives,” said junior and vice president of events and programming Brianna Powers. “From building a playground to renovating buildings and creating fun experiences for them, we just hope that our contributions make their futures just a little bit brighter.”
