HAMDEN, CT — Quinnipiac University is moving classes online for the remainder of the spring semester, officials announced. Students will not return to campus after the extended spring break and university housing will be closed for the rest of the spring semester, with the exception of special cases that need accommodation, officials said.

Quinnipiac announced last week that it would be moving classes online and extended spring break to help prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. In the latest announcement, officials said students are not allowed to return to any of the campuses at this time. Students will be notified later on how they can retrieve their belongings from the residence halls and other buildings.

“Taking these actions now is – without a doubt – in the best interest of our students’ health, the health of our faculty and staff, and our local communities,” Quinnipiac University President Judy Olian said. “It is also consistent with the recommendations and urging of government officials all around us to safeguard communities and to try and slow the continued spread of this virus.”

All university events, including admissions tours and info sessions, have been canceled until further notice. All spring collegiate and club athletic programs have also been canceled.

Olian said it’s too early to make any decisions about the school’s commencement ceremonies in May.
