Quinnipiac University’s ‘QU In DC’ Program Recognized

The program has been recognized for excellence in experiential education.

HAMDEN, CT - From Quinnipiac University: Quinnipiac University’s “QU in DC” Washington Semester program has been named “2017 Seminar Partner of the Year” by The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars.

The program, which is a partnership with The Washington Center, offers academic seminars for students in any major, combined with a major internship and professional development training. During the 2017-18 academic year, 16 students spent a fall, spring or summer semester in Washington, D.C. doing internships and coursework, and 52 students participated in various two-week-long academic seminars. Students deepen their knowledge of academics as well as develop new career possibilities during their Washington D.C. semester. Quinnipiac faculty members have been leading students to Washington DC for experiential seminars since 2000.

This award recognizes the consistent and exceptional support Quinnipiac and its faculty have provided to students attending The Washington Center programs, with a special emphasis on the Presidential Inauguration Seminar 2017. Kathy Cooke, professor of history, Jennifer Sacco, associate professor of political science, and Scott McLean, professor of political science, led 38 Quinnipiac students to the Washington Center’s 2017 seminar at the presidential inauguration. For McLean, it was his fifth inauguration.

“This recognition is rightly shared with Professors Sacco and Cooke,” said McLean, who is director of Quinnipiac’s “QU in DC” program. “Without the hard work and outstanding teaching by these scholars, we would not have been able to bring so many students or provide the depth of intellectual perspective for our students seeing history being made at the inauguration of President Trump.”

The award will be presented at The National Press Club in Washington D.C. on Oct. 2.
