State Police Investigate Hamden Police Involved Shooting

Detectives are investigating an incident in which a Hamden police officer fired his weapon at a suspect on Route 15 North Monday night.

State Police are investigating an incident in which a Hamden police officer fired his weapon at a suspect during a pursuit on Route 15 North on Monday night.

There were no reported injuries in the incident, State Police Spokesman Trooper Kelly Grant said in a press release.

Grant said that at about 6 p.m. on Sept. 7, an investigation into an incident was initiated in Hamden resulting in the Hamden Police Department attempting to stop a motor vehicle.

The suspect failed to stop his motor vehicle after being directed to do so by Hamden police and continued driving. The suspect vehicle eventually entered Route 15 Northbound in the area of exit 61 in Hamden.

During the course of the incident, a Hamden police officer discharged his duty weapon at the suspect, according to Grant.

The suspect vehicle was eventually brought to a stop, and the suspect attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended by Hamden police officers.

Grant also said that at some point during the incident, the suspect vehicle and a Hamden Police cruiser collided on Route 15 North in the area of exit 61. There were no reported injuries.

At the request of the New Haven States Attorney’s Office, Detectives from the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Squad responded to the scene and assumed the investigation into the discharge of the Hamden Police duty weapon, according to Grant.

Grant said this is an active investigation and identifications are pending.
