Student, 18, Charged with Calling in Bomb Threat to Hamden High School

Police are also investigating a bomb threat that was called in for ACES on Skiff Street hours after the Hamden High call.

Hamden police have arrested an 18-year-old student for allegedly calling in a bomb threat to Hamden High School Friday morning.

Dyshawn Silva is accused of calling police at about 8:30 a.m., saying “There’s a bomb at Hamden High School,” Capt. Ronald Smith said in a press release.

After receiving the call, students were evacuated and moved to the Lou Astorino Ice Rink parking lot on Mix Avenue while police searched the building.

No explosives were found and students were allowed to re-enter the building about two hours later.

During the search, officers discovered “part” of the cell phone that was used to make the threat.

Smith said the piece of the cell phone was located inside of the toilet in the men’s second floor bathroom.

Further investigation, and with the assistance of Hamden High School Security, led police to identify Silva as the caller.

Silva, of 152 Country Hills Road, was arrested on charges of first-degree threatening, second-degree breach of peace and falsely reporting an incident. Silva is being detained at police headquarters on a $5,000 bond.

Detective Mark Consorte conducted the investigation.

About three hours later, Smith said, Troop I of the Connecticut State Police received a bomb threat intended for Whitney High North (ACES), 205 Skiff Street in Hamden.

Hamden Police, who were initially dispatched to Hamden High School, responded to ACES and searched the buildings with the assistance of school administrators. No explosives were found and students returned to the building within a half an hour, according to Smith.

Detective Sean Dolan is conducting the investigation.
