Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Bust, Seizure of Semi-Automatic Gun: Hamden Police

Hamden Police arrested two men and seized cocaine, heroin and a gun after stopping a car they say was speeding.

Hamden, CT — A traffic stop led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of cocaine, heroin and a semi-automatic handgun Friday night in Hamden.

Members of the Hamden Police Department Street Interdiction Team observed a motor vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Woodin Street at about 10 p.m. on June 10 and conducted a traffic stop, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said a search of the operator of the vehicle, Edward Cavallaro, led to the seizure of 1 gram of crack cocaine.

The passenger, Mark Davis, was in the illegal possession of a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, according to Smith.

Smith said a subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 20 wax folds of heroin.

Cavallaro, 53, of 11 St. John Street in North Haven, was arrested on charges of two counts of possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics with the intent to sell. Cavallaro was detained on a $50,000 bond.

Davis, 30, of 218 Sherman Avenue, second floor, in New Haven, was arrested on charges of possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with the intent to sell, weapons in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and altering a serial number on a firearm. Davis was detained on a $100,000 bond.

Cavallaro and Davis are scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on June 28.
