Two Hamden Teens Charged with Stealing Scooters

The scooters, valued at nearly $3,000, were stolen from a Pinerock Avenue residence.

Hamden police arrested two Hamden teens, ages 17 and 13, for allegedly stealing two scooters from a Pinerock Avenue residence last Thursday.

Police responded to the home at about 5 a.m. on Dec. 11 on the report of a burglary and found that entry was forcible gained into the garage and two scooters, which were valued at nearly $3,000, were stolen, Police Capt. Ronald Smith said in a press release.

Four hours earlier, at approximately 1 a.m., Officer Dennis Putnam observed two juveniles standing next to two scooters on Davis Street, according to Smith.

The scooters didn’t have keys in the ignition and the juveniles didn’t have a driver’s license. The scooters were subsequently towed from the scene.

Smith said further investigation revealed that the scooters were stolen in the burglary that occurred on Pinerock Avenue.

The two teens were charged with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny and interfering with a police officer.

The juveniles are scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on Dec. 18.
