Update: Author Remains in Critical Condition

Meriden's Laura Van Wormer was struck by a vehicle driving in the wrong direction on the Wilbur Cross Parkway in Hamden last week.

Best-selling author Laura Van Wormer, 59, of Meriden, remains in critical condition one week after a head-on collision in Hamden, the Meriden Record-Journal reports.

Van Wormer, who was on her way to La Guardia Airport to fly out for a meeting with actress Betty White about a book, was struck by another vehicle that was driving in the wrong direction on the Wilbur Cross Parkway last Sunday.

Van Wormer’s literary agent told the Record-Journal that she faced multiple surgeries the day after the crash and she was still in critical condition as of Monday morning.

State police are investigating the crash, which occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Route 15 between the Heroes’ Tunnel and Exit 60 on June 14.

The driver of the other vehicle, Wilian Chavez-Sanchez, was also taken to Yale after the accident.
