2 Injured, 3 Families Displaced After Hartford Apartment Building Fire: HFD

Two residents were rushed to the hospital on Wednesday, suffering from smoke inhalation.

HARTFORD, CT — Two residents were injured and 11 displaced after a fire tore through a Hartford apartment building on Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters contained a structure fire at an occupied multi-family home in Hartford’s Frog Hollow neighborhood, displacing three families but causing no reported firefighter injuries, according to the City of Hartford Fire Department.

Crews responded at 4:09 p.m. to a reported fire at 334 Jefferson St.

The first-arriving company “did an excellent job quickly knocking down the bulk of the fire,” the department said in a statement, while additional crews deployed hose lines to bring the incident under control.

All occupants safely exited the building before conditions worsened.

Three adults were evaluated for smoke inhalation; two were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation, while one declined transport.

Firefighters also rescued one dog from the home.

The Hartford Police Department assisted with traffic control in the area. Connecticut Transit provided a bus to shelter residents displaced by the fire.

The department’s Special Services Unit is working with the American Red Cross to assist three displaced families—11 people in total, including eight adults and three children.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
