2 Killed In I-91 Crash In Hartford

A disabled car was struck by another vehicle in the left shoulder on the southbound side of the highway, police said.

HARTFORD, CT — Two people, including a man who stopped to help at the scene of a minor accident on Interstate 91, were killed when a disabled vehicle was struck by a car Wednesday night.

State police reported a Honda Accord struck a metal beam guardrail on the left shoulder of the highway's southbound side near exit 27. Giovanni Melendez, 24, of New Britain, had parked his vehicle on the right shoulder and run across the highway to the scene when he and the Honda were struck by a Nissan Altima operated by Brnadon Knoll, 25, of Springfield, Mass., state police said.

Melendez was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital, while the driver of the Honda, whose identity has not yet been released by police, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Knoll was not injured in the collision, according to police.
