Amazon Surprises Thirman Milner School with $15,000

Amazon Surprises Thirman Milner School with $15,000 to Support STEM Education, Celebrates Black History Month

Last week students from Thirman Milner School, local educators, and community leaders joined Amazon at their Windsor fulfillment center to celebrate Black History Month. Richard Dyce, Director of Operations at Amazon’s Windsor site took them on a behind-the-scenes tour for students to see the magic that happens after customers click “Buy” on Amazon.com and get a first-hand look at Amazon robotics. After the tour, Amazon surprised the students with a $15,000 donation, which will help the school create a STEM program.

“Milner is a school that is predominantly Hispanic and African American, and our kids are so capable and just coming here today and seeing this got them really excited,” said Jasmin Harding, Thirman Milner School Assistant Principal.

Dyce talked to students about his career path and his experiences, Amazon’s mission to inspire the next generation of underrepresented minority students studying STEM, and what he hopes the impact will be on the students from Thirman Milner.

“Every young person in this community represents our future – the next generation of innovators, builders, and coders,” Dyce said. “We’re proud to be a member of the greater Hartford community and to create job opportunities and invest in our local schools.”
