1. Hartford Police Recover Stolen Gun, Charge Parolee After Traffic Stop (patch.com) — Hartford residents are being told more about a July 24 police operation in which officers stopped a vehicle downtown and recovered a stolen, loaded handgun reported out of Bloomfield. A 31-year-old parolee from Hartford was arrested on multiple motor vehicle and firearm charges, and police are again publicizing their anonymous tip line for information on local criminal activity.
2. Saint Francis Hospital launches free prescription medication program for vulnerable residents (fox61.com subscription) — Hartford's Saint Francis Hospital has just launched a new program providing free prescription medications to uninsured, low-income residents with chronic illnesses, aiming to reduce financial barriers to care. At the same time, the hospital introduced Dr. Robert Roose as its new regional acute care president, signaling a broader push to better integrate clinical and social support for Hartford-area patients.
3. UConn Hartford opens first-ever residence hall on Pratt Street (dailycampus.com) — Downtown Hartford is getting a major boost as UConn opens its first-ever residence hall on Pratt Street, bringing up to 200 students to live right in the city's core. The $29 million project, backed by state, city, and corporate support, aims to turn Hartford into more of a college town, fueling nearby businesses and offering Hartford-based students new housing and scholarship options.
4. West Hartford Symphony to Host Chamber Cabaret - We-Ha (we-ha.com) — Music lovers in the Hartford area can look forward to the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra's new "Chamber Cabaret" benefit concert at Town Hall on Sept. 19, 2026. The event will also mark the debut of new music director Dr. John R. "Rusty" Koenig as he takes over from founding conductor Richard Chiarappa.
5. Elevator Rescue Training means a lot of moving parts for West Hartford firefighters (fox61.com) — West Hartford firefighters are intensively training for elevator rescues as more multi-story apartment buildings rise in and around town, increasing elevator use for local residents. Crews are practicing on real elevators along Farmington Avenue, combining rope, confined-space, and medical skills so they're ready when someone in the Hartford area gets stuck between floors.
