Hartford Police Recover Stolen Gun, Charge Parolee After Traffic Stop (patch.com) β Hartford police say they arrested a parolee in July after recovering a stolen, loaded handgun from a vehicle that fled a traffic stop near Columbus Boulevard and Talcott Street. Officers used a tire-deflation device before finding the 9mm, which was reported stolen from Bloomfield. The driver faces multiple firearm and motor vehicle charges, and police continue seeking tips on local criminal activity.

2. Hartford police investigating after overnight double shooting (wfsb.com) β Hartford police are investigating an overnight double shooting near Barbour Street that left a woman in her 30s and a man in his 40s hospitalized but conscious. Officers responded after a ShotSpotter alert around 12:30 a.m., then learned of the second victim at a local hospital. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Hartford Police Department tip line.

Elevator Rescue Training means a lot of moving parts for West Hartford firefighters (fox61.com) β West Hartford firefighters are spending multiple days training on complex elevator rescues as more multi-story apartment buildings β and elevators β go up around town. Crews are practicing at a Farmington Avenue building to master both new and century-old elevator systems. Leaders say the goal is to be fully prepared when residents get stuck and need help.

4. UConn program had students learn beyond classroom. Where and why (courant.com) β UConn landscape architecture students helped redesign outdoor and staff spaces at several Connecticut prisons, then presented their plans at UConn Hartford to correction officials and faculty. The hands-on project, rooted partly in lessons from Norway, shows how thoughtful planting and design can improve mental health and workplace culture in correctional facilities while giving Hartford-connected students real-world experience beyond the classroom.
