Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Hartford Woman Dead After Hit-And-Run Motorcycle Crash: Police (patch.com) — Hartford residents are being urged to help police after a 56-year-old local woman, Deborah Cooper, died from injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Albany Avenue Tuesday night. Investigators say she was struck by a black and red Can-Am Spyder that fled toward Irving Street, and Hartford's Crime Scene Division is asking anyone with information to call the department's tip line.
2. Manchester Man Impersonates Cop With Fake Cruiser On Hartford Highway: Police (patch.com) — Drivers on I-91 in Hartford may have seen what looked like a police SUV, but state troopers say it was actually a privately owned vehicle outfitted with red lights, siren, and police-style gear. A Manchester man was arrested on charges including impersonating an officer and illegal weapon possession, and he's due in Hartford Superior Court later this month.
3. Midnight basketball is back in Hartford to reduce youth violence (wtnh.com) — Hartford residents can now join a revived Midnight Basketball program every Friday night, aimed at giving teens and adults a safe, fun alternative during peak crime hours. Games run 8 p.m. to midnight at Parker Community Center and Arroyo Recreation Center, are open to ages 13 and up, and even include free pizza while supporting broader violence-prevention efforts.
4. Charter Oak at Wadsworth Atheneum (blogspot.com) — Hartford's legendary Charter Oak lives on in surprising ways at the Wadsworth Atheneum, where a chair and painting frame are said to be crafted from the fallen tree. The story also highlights Hartford industrialist Samuel Colt, who reportedly had a baby bassinet made from the oak, tying local history, craftsmanship, and civic pride together.
5. Underused East Hartford office space to be converted into apartments (ctpublic.org) — A largely empty 19-story office tower in East Hartford's riverfront district, overlooking Hartford's skyline, will be converted into about 250 apartments in a $90 million project starting early next year. Backed partly by state Community Investment Fund grants, the redevelopment aims to upgrade outdated 1970s infrastructure, emphasize higher-quality housing, and could add hundreds of new homes just across the river from Hartford.
