Few People Know This Connecticut Botanical Garden Exists But It Feels Like A World Away (newsbreak.com) — Right on the Hartford–West Hartford line, Elizabeth Park Rose Garden offers residents a free, daily escape with rose-covered arches, lawns for picnics, and a storybook gazebo. Open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. with free parking, it's especially stunning in June but remains a peaceful spot for walks, photos, and quiet reading throughout the warmer months.
2. Hartford health fair provides information, access to community (wtnh.com) — Hartford residents just had free access to screenings and health information at the 16th annual Ollie M. Williams Community Health and Wellness Fair, run by the city and Charter Oak Health Center. Neighbors connected with local providers, learned about CPR and opioid emergencies, and received cancer and blood pressure checks at no cost, all aimed at keeping the capital region healthier.
3. Fall ART STOP in West Hartford Will Offer One-Stop Art Market - We-Ha (we-ha.com) — West Hartford's WEHA Artists Emporium will host its fall ART STOP on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 35 North Quaker Lane, featuring nearly a dozen local artists, handmade goods, and live acoustic music. Hartford-area residents are invited to browse unique gifts, support small creative businesses, and enjoy a relaxed neighborhood art market with a rain date of Oct. 18.
4. Hartford Lottery Player Scores $100K Scratch-Off Prize (shorenewsnetwork.com) — A Hartford resident has claimed a $100,000 prize on a $100,000 CA$HWORD 2nd Edition scratch-off ticket, according to the Connecticut Lottery. The winning ticket, sold at S S Quick Mart in Windsor and claimed Sept. 30, highlights a major six-figure win landing close to home, though the winner's name has not been released.
5. Ardie 'Cuban' Wallace Chronicles 50 Years of Reggae History (sflcn.com) — A longtime reggae promoter who moved to Hartford in the early 1970s is sharing how a landmark 1975 Bob Marley concert at the Bushnell helped spark the city's reggae scene. His new book, released this weekend, traces five decades of shows he's brought to Connecticut and reflects on Hartford's role in reggae's growth across the United States.
