Hartford, CT – June 29, 2018 – Hartford Stage will hold auditions for boys, ages 7-8, for the Tony Award-winning theatre’s world premiere production of Make Believe on Wednesday, July 11, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Auditions will be held at Hartford Stage Offices located at 942 Main Street in Hartford (Residence Inn awning; take elevator to the second floor Education Studio). If called back for the role, children will be required to audition in New York City on Thursday, July 12, or Friday, July 13.

Playwright Bess Wohl’s uncanny, gently funny and touching play, set in the 1980’s, follows four young siblings as their childhood is upended by the mysterious problems of the adults in their lives and tracks how moments from our childhood resonate with us forever. The production will be directed by Jackson Gay.

Small boys between the ages of 7-8 who can look 5 or 6 years old will audition for the role of Carl (age 5). Carl does not communicate verbally – possibly because he is a make believe “dog.” Boys must prepare a monologue, poem or speech that is under 1 minute long. Boys must also be prepared to play some improvisational theatre games as part of their audition. Please bring a recent photo and resume (or bio), as well as your family’s August and September calendars with all potential rehearsal conflicts. Casual and comfortable clothing is recommended for the audition.
