As Bear Tours Hartford, DEEP Urges Folks To Be 'Bear Aware'
A bear reportedly has spent much of the day Friday in a tree in Hartford.
HARTFORD, CT — On the same day a bear made life a bit interesting for Hartford police and animal control officeres, state officials released information on how to make sure Yogi's relatives don't show up for any Memorial Day weekend soirees.
WVIT Channel 30 reported that a bear caused a bit of a scene in Hartford Friday afternoon, hanging out in a tree on Chestnut Street.
This prompted a response from animal control, police tape being set up and the area blocked off as local authorities and the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection tended to the scene to relocate the creature.

Of course, bears are nothing new in Connecticut these days, with many towns in the greater Hartford area dealing with repeated sitings of black bears.
The situation is particularly acute in Avon, which this week had a bear infilitrate a local bakery and help itself to about 60 cupcakes .... without paying for them.

Friday, the DEEP posted information urging folks to be "bear aware" this weekend.
"If a bear ends up eating at your picnic table you might be doing it wrong... Bears have a natural diet and it doesn't include human food," DEEP wrote.
"Help them stay on track by properly disposing of food waste and securing your outdoor eating areas."
