Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra Announces 2021/2022 Season

HARTFORD, CT - October 10, 2021 - The Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, under the leadership of Artistic Director Adrian Sylveen, today announced its 2021/2022 season.

All titles, artists, dates, times and locations are subject to change. The most current COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed for all performances.

The opera will be presented in association with the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art’s exhibition By Her Hand: Artemisia Gentileschi and Women Artists in Italy, 1500–1800. Italian composer Francesca Caccini’s “La liberazione di Ruggiero dall'isola d'Alcina” was the first opera to be written by a woman.

Annual Polish Christmas Concert
Exact date and location will be announced at a later date.

This annual holiday tradition will be performed with the Moniuszko Choir of New Britain. Christmas carols and Composer Ignacy Jan Paderewski’s Fantaisie-Polonaise will be featured.

“Die Fledermaus” (“The Flittermouse” or “The Bat”, sometimes called “The Revenge of the Bat”) premiered in Vienna in 1874.

This special collaboration with The New Britain Museum of American Art will also feature spoken word and art. The program will include the music of Italian-American composer Ernesto Ferreri, the premiere of String Symphony, Octet for Chamber Orchestra, and Italian composer Niccolo Paganini’s “Campanella, Respighi: Il Tramonto, Ancient Airs and Dances, Suite III”.

Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Trinity-On-Main Arts Center, New Britain, Connecticut
Saturday, April 30, 2022 at The Bushnell Performing Arts Center, Hartford, Connecticut

Additional performances of the Verdi opera will be held in Middletown and New London in May.

“Otello” is based on William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, Othello. The opera, which became one of Verdi's most successful works, debuted in Milan in 1887.

June 2022
“WE, THE PEOPLE” - Immigrants' Stories, Part 2:
The program will feature world premiere music from Jewish/Russian/American composer and jazz pianist Alex Nakhimovsky, commissioned by the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. Also included will be Russian Soviet composer Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev’s “Symphony No.1 op. 25 "Classical", Austrian composer Gustav Mahler’s “Adagio” from Symphony No. 2, Russian composer Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninoff’s "Vocalise", and Russian Soviet composer Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich’s “Chamber Symphony op. 83a”.
