CT College Student, Teen Drown In Separate Incidents: Report

A Connecticut college campus is mourning the death of a student.

HARTFORD, CT — Tragic news to share this morning involving a Hartford teen and a college student who attended the University of Hartford, who both drowned in separate recent incidents.

Theeb Alyami, 27, of Hartford and Jaser Daham Alrakah, of Springfield, were identified Wednesday as the two people who drowned in the Chicopee River in Massachusetts last week, according to Fox 61. Alyami was attending the University of Hartford. In a statement, via Fox 61, University of Hartford President Greg Woodward said Alyami's death is a "tragic loss."Alyami was an international student from Saudi Arabia.

"We will mourn this terrible loss together. In the days ahead, we will work with Theeb’s family to determine the most appropriate way to honor his memory. For now, I ask that you keep his family and friends, as well as our CETA colleagues, in your thoughts and prayers as they begin to cope with this tragedy."

And then this morning the body of a missing teen was found in a pool at Keney Park In Hartford, NBC Connecticut reports. Police said they found the teen's body at the bottom of the pool and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital. This incident is under investigation by police.

The names of the two victims have not yet been released.
