Do You Need Reliable, Eager Employees This Summer?

CRT's Summer Youth Employment Program has 190 Students Seeking Job Opportunities with Hartford-area Employers – at No Cost to the Business!

Attention employers in the City of Hartford and East Hartford! Do you need reliable help this summer? The Community Renewal Team (CRT), in conjunction with Capital Workforce Partners, can help line you up with a student employee for the summer at NO COST to your business.

Through CRT’s Summer Youth Employment Program, 190 students – ages 14 – 21 – will have meaningful employment opportunities in Hartford this summer; and now additional employers are needed to help give these students a memorable experience with their first real job.

“For many of the students involved, this is their first paid work experience, and this program offers them valuable insights into what it takes to be successful in the workforce,” says Cynthia Baisden, Program Manager for CRT’s Summer Youth Employment Program. “They learn about what is expected of them when working every day, and they see what it takes to be an integral part of a company or organization.”

CRT’s Summer Youth Employment Program is a unique opportunity that provides jobs in the public and private sectors to youth each year during the summer months. The participants work between 24 – 40 hours a week (a maximum of 120 hours per participant) during July and August for a period of up to six weeks.

This year, CRT is seeking businesses both large and small, as well as nonprofits and schools, to host CRT’s summer youth program participants. Job sectors include: retail, education, arts and humanities, social services, sports and youth development.

And the best part of all? There is no cost to employers for participating in this program – all of the participants are paid through a grant provided by Capital Workforce Partners, the City of Hartford, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, and the State of Connecticut.

CRT administers the payroll for the students enrolled in the program, and maintains their workers compensation coverage. Additionally, CRT will provide a contact person for the worksite supervisor for any issues related to the employed youth.

Young adults and teens participating in the program acquire skills needed for job readiness, leadership development, decision making, on-the-job training, and much more.

After completing the program, most in-school youth will return to school for the fall, and many out-of-school youth will either pursue a college education or look to enter the workforce. Employers may also choose to hire the summer youth after their completion of the program.
