'Ducky' Situation Rectified On Hartford Highway: Police

State police Thursday issued a report about how a bunch of ducks caused traffic mayhem on a busy highway earlier this week.

HARTFORD, CT — State police Thursday recounted a rather unique incident in Interstate 91 in Hartford Monday that proved police work isn't all it's "quacked" up to be.

In a statement featuring an ornithological pun or two, police said traffic was "fowled" up on Interstate 91 in the city Monday due to ducks crossing the highway.

According to police, the Troop H Hartford barracks received multiple 911 calls about the ducks, which were on I-91 South in the area of Exit 33 at about 3:47 p.m.

It prompted a brief, but necessary, highway closure to ensure the ducks' safety.

"Troopers responded, moved the ducks out of the roadway, and cleared the scene for traffic to continue on," wrote Connecticut State Police Thursday.

But they were not done. The ducks were back for more.

"The ducks came back into the roadway later on, which caused a second response," police wrote. "Upon the second incident, a DMV officer was the first unit on scene and responding troopers assisted with stopping traffic."

Ultimately, police said, the Hartford Animal Control Department was then contacted to assist with removing the birds from the highway, police said.

They were eventually relocated to safety and the birds lived to quack another day.
