East Hartford Barbers Hailed Heroes After Saving Child Running In Road

Surveillance footage from inside the barber shop shows the pair hard at work when they spot the child out the window.

EAST HARTFORD, CT — Two East Hartford barbers took a break from giving fresh cuts to save a young life Tuesday.

Osvaldo Lugo and Rafael Santana, a "quick-thinking and brave duo" who work at LookSharp Barbershop, were hailed as heroes after saving a toddler who they noticed running toward Main Street traffic outside their shop, according to the East Hartford Police Department.

Surveillance footage from inside the shop shows the pair hard at work when they spot the child out the window, springing into action and scooping up the child just before he entered the intersection.

The child had managed to escape from his mother before fleeing, police said.

One of the men shared the video on the Instagram profile for their shop, writing that they are "still a little shaken up."

Police said that thanks to the pair, "a potential tragedy was averted, and a family remains whole," adding: "We're incredibly grateful for these everyday heroes among us."
