East Hartford Man Didn't Pay Mortgage For 6 Years, Lied On Forms

He was found guilty in federal court of falsifying documents.

EAST HARTFORD, CT — An East Hartford man was found guilty of making a false statement on a federal tax form after he refinanced his mortgage and then didn't make any payments for six years.

The mortgage holder filed for foreclosure in April 2011 against Raymond McLaughlin, 45. The order was granted by a judge in December 2012 and 44 motions filed by McLaughlin were denied between the and April 2014, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office.

McLaughlin mailed documents regarding his foreclosure to the U.S. Treasury that claimed he paid more than $332,000 in taxable income to state courts. The judge in the case could have assessed an additional $110,000 in taxes if that were true.
