Fire Displaces Three Families In Hartford: Red Cross

The state's Red Cross chapter assisted six adults and two children impacted by the fire Saturday at a multi-family building.

HARTFORD, CT — The American Red Cross is responding after a serious fire Saturday in Hartford impacted three families.

According to the American Red Cross chapter serving Connecticut and Rhode Island, six adults and two children are receiving aid following a fire Saturday on Whitmore Street in Hartford.

Red Cross officials said the Red Cross provided assistance to meet the families’ "immediate needs."

The Red Cross also provided a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire.

The Red Cross said those include tips on cleanup, notifying important contacts, dealing with damaged items, and more.

The Red Cross is also providing so-called "comfort kits" with personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies, and other items a resident might need when suddenly displaced from their home by a fire.

"Red Cross caseworkers will contact those affected in the coming days to develop a longer-term recovery plan," wrote the Red Cross. "The Red Cross provides assistance through the generosity of its donors and the commitment of its volunteers."
