Free Community Film Screenings at Real Art Ways

HARTFORD, CONN. On Monday, January 16th starting at 11:00am, Real Art Ways will present three moving documentary films that explore the civil rights movement for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Following the films, the audience members are invited to participate in a facilitated discussion. Free admission. All ages are welcome. Come for one film, or stay all day! Real Art Ways is located at 56 Arbor Street, Hartford.

Monday, January 16 Programming
Real Art Ways will present three moving films that demonstrate the potential for individuals to bring about positive social change and to serve as advocates and leaders in their communities.

Mighty Times: The Children’s March
The mostly unheard story of the youth of Birmingham, Alabama, who braved fire hoses police dogs and jail in 1963 to bring segregation to its knees. 40 mins.

12 Noon
Selma: The Bridge to the Ballot
On March 7, 1965, 600 civil rights activists left Selma, Alabama, on foot, marching for dignity and equality. The story of a courageous group of students and teachers who, along with other activists, fought a nonviolent battle to win voting rights for African Americans in the South. 40 mins.

Guided Discussion led by Film Facilitator Derek Hall
Hall will lead those present in a discussion about Mighty Times: The Children's March and Selma: The Bridge to the Ballot.

Soundtrack for a Revolution
The story of the American civil rights movement through its inspiring and powerful music.

Hall will lead those present in a discussion about Soundtrack for a Revolution.
