Funeral Services Set To Honor Fallen Hartford Policeman

HARTFORD, CT — The public will be able to honor fallen Hartford police officer Bobby Garten during two services in Hartford later this week.

Services for Garten, who was killed while on duty in a vehicle accident Sept. 6, were announced on Monday.

The eight-year police veteran was a passenger in a police cruiser that collided with a fleeing vehicle from a separate call.

In addition to funeral arrangements, the Hartford Police Department announced Monday Garten was posthumously promoted to detective, retroactive to the day he died last week.

According to Garten's obituary, "family, friends, and representatives from police departments across the country will come together to honor Detective Garten."

A special memorial service is slated for Friday, Sept. 15, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Dunkin' Park, which is home to the Hartford Yard Goats, 1214 Main St., Hartford.

The next day, a celebration of life service will take place Saturday, Sept. 16, at 10 a.m. at the XL Center, 1 Civic Center Plaza, Hartford.

Burial will be private with the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield, in charge of arrangements.
