Future of Small Hartford Airport in Limbo
Debate about the future of Brainard Airport grew heated at a public hearing Wednesday night.

HARTFORD, CT — A considerable debate ensued Wednesday night between government officials and aviation industry leaders at a public hearing regarding the future of Brainard Airport, CTNewsJunkie reported.
Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin and Rep. Angel Arce advocated shutting down the airfield and developing the 201 acres on which it sits. On the opposite side of the argument were Kevin Dillon, executive director of the Connecticut Airport Authority, and Robert Maranda, principal owner of the Hartford Jet Center, who spoke of the benefits of the airport.
According to ctairports.org, Brainard consists of one seasonal 2,350 foot long turf runway and two asphalt runways, 4,400 and 2,300 feet long, one lighted helipad, and supporting infrastructure that includes a taxiway system, aircraft parking aprons, an instrument landing system, air traffic control tower, weather station, vehicle parking, and numerous airport tenant facilities. FAA contract tower operating hours are 6 a.m. to midnight daily.
