Greater Hartford YMCA Gets $500K State Gift
State and city leaders were in Hartford Thursday to announce a major grant for the organization.

HARTFORD, CT — Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz and Hartford elected officials announced a $500,000 grant-in-aid to the YMCA of Greater Hartford Thursday.
The funding is for capital improvements and upgrades at the Albany Avenue location.
This money is part the State Bonding Commission’s most recent meeting agenda, which is directed to local nonprofits, governments and state agencies seeking funding to support a variety of projects across Connecticut.

“Gov. Lamont and I know that when we invest in our Connecticut communities, we create better outcomes for everyone in our state. That’s why I’m proud to be here today to highlight this funding for the Greater Hartford YMCA,” said Bysiewicz.
“The programs and services that our state’s local YMCA’s provide are vital for our younger generation’s positive development. Children can interact with their friends and have fun, learn social-emotional skills and coping mechanisms through practice and play, all while being exposed to different and exciting opportunities.”

The YMCA of Greater Hartford is a charitable association open to all and committed to helping children and adults develop their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body.

“Believe me when I tell you these funds will make a huge difference in the lives of the young people and families we serve. Every day our staff reach a vulnerable population who depend upon the services we provide at Wilson-Gray, so thank you for helping us to meet that mission.”
