GSofCT Hosts “Great Girl Scout Round Up” at CT Convention Center
INAUGURAL EVENT TEACHES BUSINESS & LIFE SKILLS FOR UPCOMING COOKIE SEASON

If downtown Hartford looks like a sea of green on Saturday, January 6, 2024, it’s not an early St. Patrick’s Day celebration, but rather, the “Great Girl Scout Round Up” hosted by Girl Scouts of Connecticut (GSOFCT). The annual event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Connecticut Convention Center, serves as the non-profit organization’s official launch of the Girl Scout Cookie season, offering a variety of helpful workshops on money management, leadership, entrepreneurship, customer care, cyber security and presentation skills to its expected 2,000 attendees. This is the first year that the group is hosting the huge gathering.
“We expect that the Great Girl Scout Round Up will be one of our most popular events as it brings together Girl Scouts of all ages who are taught hands-on techniques to boost their cookie businesses by their own peers,” said Diana Mahoney, CEO of Girl Scouts of Connecticut. “The spirit of camaraderie, mentorship and support is alive and well at this fun and productive function.”
Mahoney notes that Girl Scout attendees will have the opportunity to participate in six Badge Activity Stations to work on their Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy badges, visit over 30 company vendors, like M&T Bank, Junior Achievement, and the UConn Extension Financial Literacy Education Program, stop in at various GSOFCT booths for summer program and activity information, as well as burn off some energy in the Girl Scout Activity Zone with indoor archery stations, hula hoop games, and making SWAPS, small tokens of friendship that Girl Scouts exchange with one another.

“Equally important to the business aspect of this event are the life-balancing activities that all participants can enjoy,” adds Mahoney. “In fact, the entire day reinforces the four primary pillars of the Girl Scouts organization, which are Outdoor, Life Skills, STEAM and Entrepreneurship. We hope that attendees walk away with a solid understanding of the amazing programs that Girl Scouts offers all year round.”
Other highlights of the “Great Girl Scout Round Up” include a Summer Fun Zone, where attendees can explore summer options for day and sleep away camps, family programs and travel experiences, a meet-and-greet with Miss Teen CT Jade Ferdinand, Girl Scout sing-a-longs, access to the Council Shop to purchase all the latest GS gear, a Volunteers Lounge in which attendees can spend time with GSOFCT management team members, workshops in yoga, mindfulness, fire safety and self-defense, and presentations with The Shubert Theater.
